International seminar
EMERGING ARCHITECTURE & URBANISM 1 : (New) Contextualism
Ratusan karya arsitektur hadir disekeliling kita dengan kecepatan luar biasa. Namun sedikit yang mampu memberikan makna. Sedikit yang bisa mengkritisi mutasi sosial budaya kota. Kekinian kebanyakan berakhir menjadi akrobatik geometri semata.
- Bisakah kekinian arsitektur menyela identitas budaya ?
- Mungkinkah kekinian arsitektur mewadahi mutasi sosial?
- Dapatkah kekinian arsitektur merenungi kiamat ekologi ?
- Mampukan kekinian arsitektur meretas isu-isu urbanitas ?
Seminar ini akan mengulas pemikiran dan menampilkan karya-karya terpilih dari para arsitek dan perancang kota internasional dengan beragam perspektif dan pengalaman yang mendalam dalam merespon isu-isu kontekstual baik identitas, mutasi sosial, ekologi maupun urbanitas.

1. Sylvester Wong, of HOK Planning, Hong Kong

As Head of the Urban Design and Planning Studio in Hong Kong, Sylvester brings a wealth of experience in the master planning profession. With worldwide experience uniquely positioned in Hong Kong, Sylvester is among the global HOK Planning Group’s leaders for international projects and multi-national clients.
2. Sean Chiao, of EDAW Asia, Hong Kong

Sean Chiao is the Regional Director of EDAW’s Asia practice and serves on EDAW’s Global Executive Committee, and is Executive Vice President of its holding company AECOM. Mr. Chiao is a member of both the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Landscape Architects, and holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
3. Gary Fell, of GFAB Architecture, Bali

He graduated from the University College London and gained international recognition for a design for the Cardiff Opera House that edged out some of the world’s most noted architects. This attention opened the door for him to work as project architect on Bali at the Four Seasons Sayan before he opened his own practice, Gfab in 1999. In the past ten years, the focus of his design practice has been in Indonesia, Cambodia and Thailand.
4. Andra Matin, of Andra Matin Architects, Jakarta

Andra Matin is the young, prominent and outstanding Indonesian architect that has created numerous award-winning architectural buildings in Indonesia and throughout Asia Pacific. His works from Aksara building to Gedung Dua8 to the many others that has captured the attention of fellow architects, nationally as well as internationally.
5. Adi Purnomo, of Mamo Studio, Jakarta

He was born in Jogjakarta, 1968. In 1986 he studied architecture in Gadjah mada University and Graduated in 1994. He worked for PAI architect firm, Jakarta in 1994. In 1998 he worked for DP Architect in Singapore. In 2000, he establish his own architect firm “mamo studio” in Jakarta. His award-winning for residence category and young architect in 2002. Netherland.
6. Ridwan Kamil, of URBANE Indonesia, Bandung

Ridwan Kamil, is Principal of Urbane Indonesia Indonesia Architect. He complete a Master degree at the University of California, Berkely, in the United States, In 2003 Ridwan Kamil returned home from studies and employment at SOM in San Fransisco and Hong Kong to establish his own architecture and design company, Urbane Indonesia. His award-winning enterprise now works on large-scale projects throughout the Middle East, China and Southeast Asia.
